The 2019-20 school year is one that we will never forget!  We all miss being together with our Ridgebury "family," but we can revisit the highlights from this school year (Back to School Picnic! Rex Run!  Trunk or Treat! Family Fun Night!...), see many familiar faces, and treasure the memories for years to come through the yearbook.

Capture all the memories from our pre-quarantine distance learning days by purchasing your yearbook(s) here.

Yearbooks are $30 each, but if you have more than 1 student at Ridgebury, additional books can be purchased at a discounted rate...the first book is $30, but any additional books can be yours for just $25 each (this discount will appear in your cart).

We should be receiving the books mid-May.  Delivery details TBD.

Quantities are limited, so order today!

 School Budget 2020-2021

All aspects of our lives have changed - from the way we work, to the way our kids learn, to how we shop. In light of recent events, the town budget process has also temporarily changed this year.  Based on Governor's Executive Order 7I-Section13, there will not be a town meeting or referendum for voters to approve the town budgets.  The Board of Finance will approve, likely based on recommendations from the Board of Selectman, the town budgets.

A Public hearing will be scheduled sometime in May, but details of how that will work have not been released.
Due to the fluid nature of this year's budget process, we are asking that you email your town officials to let them know your opinion on the Board of Education budget. This is the best way to have your voice heard this year!
Please email your elected officials with your comments and concerns:

Here are some quick facts, including information from the 4/1/2020 BoS and 4/13/2020 BoE meetings:
  • Prior to the COVID-19 crisis, the Interim Superintendent and the BoE approved a 3.96% increase in the school budget.
  • The Board of Selectmen has proposed various budget options, including increasing the BoE budget by 1.5% or keeping it flat to last year.  A 2.96% increase in the school budget is needed just to cover contractual obligations (e.g., teacher salaries, health insurance, transportation and technology contracts).
  • The new Superintendent, Dr. Da Silva, stressed at the BoE meeting that it will be critical for RPS to be ready to support the children academically and emotionally when they return to school.  She expects there will be gaps that need to be addressed once students return to the classroom since distance learning is not a replacement for in-person teaching.
  • Even though the schools are closed, the BoE will not realize savings in this year’s budget to potentially carry over to next year to help with expenses. Based on state directives under the Governor’s Executive Order 7R, the BoE is still responsible for paying the salaries of school staff directly employed by the district (e.g., teachers, paraprofessionals, cafeteria staff, building subs, custodians), most of the transportation contract, tuition payments to SPED providers, and more, during the crisis.

The RES PTA Board of Directors is seeking
new members for next year!
Serving on the PTA Board might sound daunting, but it is actually quite rewarding. Not only do you make a direct impact on all students and families at Ridgebury, but you get an inside look at how the school and Ridgefield school district operates. It is also an excellent opportunity to get to know parents outside of your own child's class.
