PYP Presents: Soro Bindi

Description

Created by Iddrisu Saaka who grew up in Northern Ghana, Soro Bindi is an interactive performance that incorporates traditional African dances and songs with an exploration of Ghana. During the performance, Iddrisu will introduce children to a new culture, leading them through various dances, such as the kpanlogo (an urban recreational dance influenced by American rock ‘n’ roll) and Bawa (the traditional harvest dance), along with call-and-response chants. Kids also can bang on a kpanlogo drum, a percussion instrument used widely throughout Ghana. Iddrisu Saaka is artist-in-residence at Wesleyan University where he teaches West African dance.
